A Much Traveled Road
Hi, I’m Jason Etzel! I founded Interactive Realm in 2002 with the goal of starting my own business creating websites. That is, to say the least, a hard business to achieve success in as there are now too many competitors and there were many more back then. So I started writing my own scripts to help others with various activities on their websites. That went well for a while, but I needed more and I needed to get away from my desk.. at least part of the day.
So long story short, I turned Interactive Realm into a woodworking company, where I created many custom and replica signs and crafts and started selling on Etsy. And then a YouTube channel to document those custom creations. But eventually, that wasn’t enough either; at the beginning of 2021, in the height of the whole COVID virus thing, I started a second YouTube channel called, Signs of Amusement. It took the love of my woodworking and sign making and merged it with my love of theme parks, specifically Disneyland.
Now there were some other things I did throughout the years, from working at an online college, where I built the online interface which housed the courses, to becoming a software developer creating custom functionality within Salesforce and NetSuite. I got to meet and becomes friends with many great YouTubers, some of which are woodworkers and others that are Disney vloggers and I even know, Disney Legend and Imagineer, Bob Gurr, whom not only created one of my favorite rides, the Peoplemover, but also (as they say) pretty much any other Disney ride or attraction that has wheels. I also have a passion for graphic design as well, which allowed me to create some great logos, including Izzy Swan’s Makers Playground, the band Fire Sets Fire, for various content creators and companies and of course, for my Interactive Realm and Signs of Amusement brands.
My graphic designing skills not only allowed me to create great logos, but also let me start a few t-shirt stores on various other platforms/sites, which did okay but the product selection and quality was just not there. After doing some more research and buying samples, I found some good quality merchandise that I could customize with my own designs and actually feel good about the products I’m selling.
Arrived At Our Destination
That leads us to today, where Signs of Amusement has grown. Together, with my friends Steve (who came up with the name, Signs of Amusement) and Jeff, we started doing much more Disney related content at the begining of 2023. In the third quarter of 2023 I came accross Zack, a fellow disney enthusiast and content creator who introduced me to Shazz (and her co-host Sammy). Jeff had to take a step back,as life sometimes gets in the way, so Shazz and Zack joined the channel as co-hosts. Last but not least Disney history lover and animatronic enthusiast Louis has joined us. You can find out more about the team here.
Now not only are we a very active YouTube channel, we are also a merchandise store. Here you will find my signs and crafts and custom designed merchandise.
